Gulf Oil spill conspiracy?

Postby DVL » Sat Jun 19, 2010 3:16 pm

Has anyone else heard of the recent claims that the Obama administration and BP conspired to intentionally spill oil in the Gulf of Mexico?

Shortly after the deepwater rig went up in flames, Michael Brown (former FEMA director) made this claim to Fox News.

Talk radio host Rush Limbaugh has also suggested that someone intentionally caused the spill to build political opposition to more drilling.

And most recently, Bill Randall (Congressional candidate from NC) is suggesting that the Pres. and BP oil were in "cahoots".

haven't heard those conspiracies yet (even though I've got a friend on Facebook that's into LOTS of conspiracy stuff, and posts it constantly...)

Have heard though, that BP's not doing a competent job because they're getting so very much more in grants and free funds to clean it, than they spend per day actually cleaning.

My biggest concerns on "conspiracy" at this point is not whether the president was behind the disaster, or even the government (with the proven exception of the ineptitude of the Mineral Management Service). My concern is why BP has been "allowed" to command the Gulf of Mexico when it comes to the entire cleanup, even to the extent of having the apparent legal ability of shooing off reporters and pro-wildlife components from entering the polluted areas. Since when did we hear of the U.S. government giving a corporation, no less a foreign-based corporation, the rights to control a vast portion of U.S. Federal, and even State controlled, territory, aqua or not?

However, I give no quarter to the extremist conservatives that will leap on anything and spin it against the President. Almost all of the elected Republicans, as well as their radio-centric news-driven radio charismatics, are clamoring for anchorage after their devastating overturn of 2008. But it doesn't make it fact, only opinion. Just like ours here, including mine.

Is the Mineral Management Service part of the Dept. of the Interior?
